Garage Door Will Not Go Down When Cold

Garage door will not go down when cold.

This issue usually arises with brand new garage doors that were just installed or older models that may need to be reset. Cold makes the space between molecules lessen which makes objects such as garage doors contract. Now if your garage door still won t go down after you ve made sure the sensors are properly aligned and there s no obstructions you ll want to take a damp cloth and wipe down the lenses of the sensors.

There is one on each side of the door. It goes partway down reverses direction and goes back up again. This is almost always the result of a dirty or obstructed safety feature. Sometimes you ll notice that your garage door closes all the way and then immediately goes back up instead of staying in the closed position.

Check them to make sure they re correctly in place and if not adjust them so that they are. Overtime these lenses can become coated with grime dirt and even sawdust. If the door goes up but you can t make it go down you probably need to adjust the sensors. If you re still having problems then the cold temperatures may have caused the brackets that hold the runners for the garage door in place to become misaligned due to contraction of the metal in the cold weather.
